In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Abundant Peace, Blessings and Salutations upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Throughout this pandemic, the Canadian Muslim COVID-19 Task Force has collaborated with faith leaders, community organizations, health experts, and public health departments to deliver timely initiatives and guidance amidst an evolving public health crisis. Bi Idhnillah, this was made possible thanks to the thousands of hours volunteered thus far by members working together in various capacities. While our mission has and continues to always inform and protect our communities without seeking any recognition, Alhamdulillah, the calibre and impact of our work has been featured several times in local and national media.
As the pandemic continues, it has become clear that sustaining the rigorous standards we have set for our work requires funding for paid operational staff and expenses. Several options for funding have been explored, including approaching private donors, crowdsourcing from the community, and developing a charity sub-committee within our task force.
In keeping with our promise of transparency, the CMCTF is pleased to announce it has received generous program funding via the Muslim Medical Association of Canada (MMAC) from Islamic Relief Canada (IRC) to cover operational expenses for the CMCTF for 1 year, starting September 15, 2021. This funding will allow us to pay for a part-time coordinator, and communications and community outreach specialists. This is where the bulk of the ongoing need and anticipated work resides. Other operational expenses may include technical services, design work, translations, printed and other project materials.
As a funding partner of the CMCTF’s operations, the expenses will be paid directly to employees and vendors by IRC based on an approved budget, and not to any other organization. The CMCTF will continue to remain autonomous concerning decision-making and programming, as the co-chairs and team-leads continue to drive our mission and vision forward. Upholding the collaborative nature of this task force, the CMCTF is not precluded from working with other community or charitable organizations on initiatives with defined project scopes. As required by all funding organizations for transparency and accountability, IRC’s role will be highlighted on our platforms and forthcoming releases. Insha Allah, this development will allow us to further our goal of reaching and equitably benefiting every Canadian Muslim during this pandemic, regardless of location, sect, ethnicity, or language.
May Allah continue to guide us and keep our intentions pure, Ameen.
